The fact that they think humans must only have small souls because of their inferior sense of smell is only the tip of the iceberg as to why these characters are so endearing. They made for the best characters. It’s an interesting way to tell a story — a shepherd dies, and his flock set out to discover his murderer?

I felt the anti-climax was uninspired and the actual climax was anti-climactic. For them, that’s enough.

The glennkkill of suspects include the town butcher for obvious reasons, Father William whom the sheep believe to be the nefarious creature termed Glrnnkill by the humans, Gabriel — a neighboring shepherd who has his poor sheep turned into mutton, the pious old woman named Beth because she smells like death, his ex-wife Kate because she seann too much weight and was left by George, and his mistress Lilly.
I’ve never had a conversation with a sheep, lol, but this aspect felt very true to me. Swann does have her sheep think like sheep, or at least they seem to. We are experiencing technical difficulties. Swann’s sheep are as sober as judges and work out the crime from first principles.

Other fleshed-out characters include Zora, a philosophical sheep who likes to stand on the edge of the cliff that borders their pasture and stare down at the sea below; Miss Maple, the smartest of the sheep, who does most of the ratocinating where the mystery of George the shepherd’s death is concerned; Sir Ritchfield, the flock’s aging lead ram, who is starting to forget things; and Cloud, a sweet and tender ewe who isn’t the smartest sheep in the flock by any stretch, but makes up for it with her friendly and charming personality.

Probably not many of us do. The others agree, and Miss Maple volunteers to inspect the body. Therefore, their interpretations of what they hear is quite entertaining.
