Even the main characters could be developed a bit better, but Young masterfully characterizes the period while delivering a compelling tale about the horrors of war, the nature of nationalism and the consequences good or bad of ambition.

The Children’s Crusade was never officially a crusade as it was never blessed by the pope. I even went as far as comparing the events to my own historical references and to my surprise they agreed with the majority of the events of the book.
